One of our customers operates a chain of supermarkets in the Northeast. Over the years, the grocery chain had built out separate systems and processes for various areas of procurement. They were using three different systems for their asset management needs. Items for new store and remodel construction were being purchased through AutoCAD. And employees were writing and submitting expense reports in Excel spreadsheets.
Knowing they needed a third-party to come in and help, the grocery chain developed a “shopping list” of all the things they needed from an outside solution.
After evaluating several systems, the grocery chain selected Verian Technologies’ intelligent suite of purchase-to-pay solutions.
“From an enterprise perspective, we chose Verian because they had the breadth and depth of product to ensure consistency and visibility into our purchase-to-pay processes,” said the grocer’s CIO, “and they were able to easily integrate their applications into our financial system.”
“On the user side, we felt like Verian’s products were just easier to use. We can have a new user up and running within a few minutes, making requisitions, tracking assets or creating an expense report. Everything is so intuitive that the applications are almost self-taught.”
Verian’s Advanced Budgeting Module gave the grocery chain’s CFO a dashboard of budget metrics including budget vs. actual expense on a project-by-project basis, and spend by department, dollar amount, and line item.
With these three-dimensional metrics on his desktop, the CFO now has a system that will prevent budget overruns and help him make critical working capital decisions faster and with more accuracy and confidence. Because the data is being fed directly from their financial system, the grocery chain knows the reports are accurate, up-to-date and reflects real-time activity in the system.
“Thanks to Verian’s suite of applications, we get real-time views into our budget performance on all capital improvement projects – something that was just not possible before. The visibility we’re getting is absolutely invaluable,” said the CFO.
